13:9 He is the˺ Knower of the seen and the unseen—the All-Great, Most Exalted.
13:10 It is the same ˹to Him˺ whether any of you speaks secretly or openly,
whether one hides in the darkness of night or goes about in broad daylight.
13:11 For each one there are successive angels before and behind, protecting them by Allah’s command. Indeed,
Allah would never change a people’s state ˹of favour˺ until they change their own state
˹of faith˺. And if it is Allah’s Will to torment a people, it can never be averted,
nor can they find a protector other than Him.
13:12 He is the One Who shows you lightning, inspiring ˹you with˺ hope and fear,1 and produces heavy clouds.
إِذْ يَتَلَقَّى ٱلْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِيدٌۭ ١٧ As the two recording-angels—˹one˺ sitting to the right, and ˹the other to˺ the left—note ˹everything˺,
١not a word does a person utter without having a ˹vigilant˺ observer ready ˹to write it down˺.1 مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌۭ ١٨
17:13 And [for] every person We have imposed his fate upon his neck,
and We will produce for him on the Day of Resurrection a record
which he will encounter spread open.
17:14 [It will be said], "Read your record. Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant."
49. And the book will be placed, and you will see the sinners fearful of its contents.
And they will say, “Woe to us! What is with this book that leaves nothing,
small or big, but it has enumerated it?”
They will find everything they had done present. Your Lord does not wrong anyone.

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“It is the same (to Him) whether any of you conceals his speech or declares it openly, whether he be hid by night or goes forth freely by day.

A man's decreed lifespan is his protection.”

Every single person has two angels who write down his deeds, both good and bad, minor and major. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“But verily, over you (are appointed angels in charge of mankind) to watch you,
Kiraman (Honourable) Katibeen —writing down (your deeds),
They know all that you do.” [82:10-12]
“And indeed We have created man, and We know what his own self whispers to him. And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein (by Our Knowledge).
(Remember) that the two receivers (recording angels) receive (each human being), one sitting on the right and one on the left (to note his or her actions).
Not a word does he (or she) utter but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it).”

It was reported from Abu Umamah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The angel on the left does not write down anything until six hours have passed after a Muslim does a bad deed. If he regrets it and asks Allah for forgiveness, he casts it aside [does not write it down], otherwise he writes down one (sayyiah/bad deed).”

Allah says about the angels that are appointed to write down the deeds of every person, “And indeed We have created man, and We know what his own self whispers to him. And He says in another verse, “But verily, over you (are appointed angels in charge of mankind) to watch you, Kiraman (honorable) Katibeen (writing down your deeds), They know all that you do.” [Soorah al-Infitaar (82):10-12]
Angels in charge of recording a person's deeds thus write down everything that he does in his life from the time he reaches the age of puberty to the time when Allah takes his soul in death. Hence, on the Day of Judgment, each person will find that his book of deeds contains everything that he said or did, “And We have fastened every man's deeds to his neck, and on the Day of Resurrection, We shall bring out for him a book which he will find wide open. (It will be said to him), ‘Read your book. You yourself are sufficient as a reckoner against you this Day.’” [Soorah al-Isra (17): 13-14]
“…the Book (of one's Record) will be placed (in the right hand for a believer, and in the left hand for a disbeliever), and you will see the Mujrimoon (criminals, polytheist, sinners, etc.), fearful of that which is (recorded) therein. They will say, “Woe to us! What sort of Book is this that leaves neither a small thing nor a big thing, but has recorded it with numbers! And they will find all that they did, placed before them, and your Lord treats no one injustice.” [Soorah al-Kahf (18): 49]
